This project allowed our practise to explore the way in which a simple and deliberately restrained architectural gesture can enhance our relationship with nature. The new pool appears to float out towards the city…barriers and handrails have been designed out. The garden platform allows for new rituals and relationships in the daily lives of the owners to occur…swimming at dawn invigorates the soul. As the first rays of sun appear over the distant horizon the exaggerated perspective of the architectural lines invites a spiritual communion and emphasise the connection to the city which hums gently in the morning light. New vistas have unfolded, the looming granite cliffs of Table Mountain are omnipresent here and glow in the sunlight with a magnetising force. As the cycles of nature are reflected in the pool, so we are reminded of our position in the cosmos.
